Compatibility

Basic controls were physically tested with Samsung UE65TU6905KXXC, as reported by the user: Home, Back, directions, OK and volume. The full acceptance suite remains pending. Compatibility with other Samsung models or LG televisions is not claimed. The app requires iOS 17 or later.

First connection

Turn on the TV with its own button or remote. Connect the iPhone to your home Wi-Fi; the TV may use Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Add a Samsung television and enter its own local IPv4 address. Grant iOS Local Network access and check the address before confirming initial secure trust. Approve this phone’s distinct Kotisaadin name on the TV’s own permission prompt. Pair each phone separately.

Missing physical remote

The TV’s own button can be used to turn it on. On the target model, the user approved the prompt with arrow keys and Enter on a USB keyboard connected to the TV. Keep approval of new devices enabled. Kotisäädin does not bypass the TV’s approval.

Connection problems

Check the TV’s current address, the same home network and any guest-network device isolation. The app uses local Wi-Fi, not cellular service or an internet address. A timeout does not prove the TV is off. A changed certificate disconnects before the saved token is sent: check the correct TV and confirm new trust separately. A new pairing requires TV approval.

Power and other limits

This version sends power-off to an active TV. It does not wake the television from standby. Turn it on with its own button or a physical remote. Automatic discovery, text input and swipe navigation are not included. Extra buttons depend on the TV screen or app.

Forget television

Forget television in Settings removes only this phone’s local pairing and secrets. Remove the approved phone separately from the television’s device list if needed. Local deletion does not revoke the approval retained by the TV.

What to include in an email

Include the app version, iPhone model and iOS version, TV model and firmware if known, and the displayed connection state. Do not include a pairing token, serial number, MAC address or Apple account details. Email is the preferred contact method. Kotisäädin is an independent app, not an official Samsung product.

Streaming shortcuts

Version 1.0 (4) adds Netflix, YouTube and HBO Max buttons and a panel for Disney+, Prime Video, Viaplay, Apple TV, SkyShowtime and discovery+. The service app must be installed on the TV. If launching fails, choose another TV app version in the shortcut settings or request the TV app list. Yle Areena, Ruutu and MTV Katsomo need an app selected from the TV list. Some TV firmware does not return this list. Shortcuts have not yet been physically tested on UE65TU6905KXXC. They do not include subscriptions or sign the user in.
